Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are established (and sun-setted) by the four action councils to define and solve problems that will take up to or more than an academic term to solve. This frees up the action councils to continue their tasks without becoming bogged down with specific challenges.

Initial topics to be addressed beginning early fall-2024 will include:

  • FPPC-
    • Third-year design projects to be introduced spring 2025
    • NSF and Government Grants – NSF – $5M S-STEM multi-institution (three community colleges) submitted February 2025
  • PPEC-
    • Fifth-year Masters program and Graduate-level sponsored design projects.
    • Creating better sponsored basic and applied research process with Strategic Corporate Partners
  • SDSC-
    • Outreach to community college students to support students applying for TSP scholars program
    • Foundation Grants like the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation – seed money to establish Transfer Scholars Program
  • SPPC-
    • Establish the priority of the various SIGs in collaboration with the other Councils, SCPs, Professional Society Organizations, and National Diversity Organizations.

Role and Tasks of the SIGs:

  • Each SIG has a defined objective and how the SIG will function,
  • Multiple teams will be established with responsibilities assigned to each team, and responsibilities assigned to each member of the team.
  • Faculty, students, professional society members, and the SCP lead representatives will be members of the SIG.
